My First and Second Day of Work

For those of you who don't know, I am working toward my master's in speech language pathology. I am done with all my coursework and just need to finish my practicum hours. I graduate in May!!! So this week I started my externship in the inpatient rehab center at the hospital. So far so good! I am really enjoying it, and my supervisor is very supportive. I am learning so much from her. I primarily work with stroke patients, but I also work with patients with other types of brain injury, dementia, etc. I anticipated it to be sad and taxing, but I find it more rewarding than anything. To be able to help someone regain the communication skills they once had is a great feeling, even if it happens in small steps. I love working with this population!!!

My son has had the best speech pathologists! He has autism and they have helped him more than anyone else. GO YOU!

That's great that it was better than you had hoped. My internship in clinical psychology was at a hospital and I loved that setting. Would pick that over private practice any day.
